Three great symphonies underpin our 2013 concert season
26 May- Music of dedication -Basilica of St Patrick
Ross Edwards’ Symphony No 1 Da Pacem Domine is the centrepiece of a program our musical director David Pye has devised especially for the vaulted ceilings and expansive acoustics of Fremantle’s glorious Basilica.
25 August- The great romantics -Fremantle Town Hall
Popular Perth conductor Jessica Gethin directs this program of works spanning the romantic period. Beethoven’s rhythmically-charged Symphony No 7 and a Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto are the highlights.
24 November- Fantastic symphony -Drill Hall, Notre Dame University, Mouat Street, Fremantle
Is there a more captivating work in the orchestral repertoire than Berlioz’ Symphony Fantastique? Music that tells the story of an artist’s unrequited love, opium-poisoning, execution and afterlife. David Pye’s Fantasy for Clarinet and Orchestra is another narrative – based on the colourful fairy-tale Rumpelstiltskin.
